Long story short: If you are into watches, have the means, understand the downfalls, then sure BIFL. But I also don’t buy into Patel’s marketing that, “a Patel isn’t owned, it’s held onto for the next generation”.

But, I won’t sell them, so who cares - I’m not looking at them as an investment and the money will not impact my life. Is it nice to see them go up in value? Yes. But after years of daily wear and banging them around, it all evens out. Sure the “initial” craftsmanship of my Rolex was better than my Seiko. But that is because I like watches so they hold (personal) value. I have zero plans to ever get rid of them. I have a couple of “luxury watches” and I love them. Will the Porsche cost you more both upfront and over time? Definitely. Will someone who isn’t into cars notice the difference? Doubtful. Is the craftsmanship better in a Porsche than a Toyota? Yes.Will they both get you from Point A to Point B? Yes.Will a Toyota and Porsche both last 50 years? Yes.
